Femboy Cosplay: Halloween Costume Ideas and How to Pull Them Off

Femboy cosplay and Halloween costume ideas, from Cloud in the dress to a vampire you can thrift in an afternoon. Every character is an adult, and there's a practical guide to wigs, makeup, fit and shoes.

Halloween is the one night of the year when nobody asks why you're wearing a skirt. If you've wanted to try a femboy look and haven't, a costume is the easiest way in. If you already dress this way, it's an excuse to go all out.

This is a guide to femboy cosplay and Halloween costumes: characters worth dressing up as, easy looks that don't need a character at all, and how to get the wig, makeup, fit and shoes right.

Our one rule

Every character on this page is a clear adult in the official material: a knight, a soldier, a university student, a working professional. Some of the most-cosplayed femboy characters online are teenagers in canon, so you won't find them here. That makes the list shorter, and we think it's better for it.

Character cosplays

Cloud Strife in the dress — Final Fantasy VII

The most famous crossplay moment in gaming. Cloud is 21, and in the Wall Market chapter he has to get into a mansion where Don Corneo is choosing a bride, so he gets made over: wig, makeup, dress, the works. Final Fantasy VII Remake turned it into a whole musical number, and the dress you get depends on choices you make earlier, so you can pick the version you like best.

What you need: a long blonde wig, a dress in the version you're going for, and Cloud's moody expression. Bringing the Buster Sword is optional and makes getting through doors difficult. It's instantly recognisable to anyone who's played the game, and a good pick if you'd like a costume with a bit of a joke built in.

Felix Argyle (Ferris) — Re:Zero

Ferris is 19 when we meet him and 20 by the later arcs, a Royal Knight and the finest healer in the kingdom, and he does all of it in frills and cat ears. He's also a catboy, so the costume works double duty.

What you need: cat ears that match your wig, a short wig with a fringe, and his knight's uniform in white and blue. You can buy the uniform ready-made from cosplay shops, or put together a simpler version from a white blouse, a skirt and a blue ribbon. Practise a smug smile.

Kuja — Final Fantasy IX

Kuja is 24, the villain of Final Fantasy IX, and one of the most theatrical characters ever put in a video game: long silver hair, a feathered collar, and a costume that leaves very little to the imagination. Most cosplayers build it over a bodysuit, which makes it warmer and easier to wear in public.

What you need: a long silver wig, feathers (a feather boa can be cut up for the collar), gold trim, and a dramatic entrance. It's a big build but it's very rewarding, and it reads from across a room.

Kuranosuke Koibuchi — Princess Jellyfish

A university student and the son of a politician who dresses as "Kurako" because he loves fashion, he's one of the best-loved characters in the genre (he's in our femboy manga list too). His whole thing is good clothes, so this costume is mostly an excuse to wear the nicest outfit you own.

What you need: a long, glossy wig, a fashionable dress or skirt-and-blouse, and good shoes. If someone asks who you're meant to be, you get to tell them about a very good manga.

G'raha Tia — Final Fantasy XIV

A cat-eared Miqo'te scholar who's several centuries older than he looks, and one of the most loved characters in the game. His big costume is the hooded robe he wears as the Crystal Exarch, which is comfortable, warm and good for an October night.

What you need: red hair and red cat ears, a long hooded robe, and crystal details on one arm if you're ambitious. If you play the game, a costume of your own male Miqo'te or Viera works too.

Meguru — My Androgynous Boyfriend

Meguru is a model in his twenties from Japan's "genderless" fashion scene, so cosplaying him is basically closet cosplay: soft silhouettes, perfect makeup and a look most people won't realise is a costume.

What you need: your best soft-styled outfit, very good eyeliner, and a camera, because he'd want photos.

Jax — Pocket Femboy

We're biased, but our own character makes a good costume. Jax is a 21-year-old record-shop punk with pink hair, a spiked choker with a heart pendant, black nails, thigh-highs, wrecked sneakers and a purple-and-pink jacket covered in heart patches. It's punk made deliberately cute, and almost all of it can be thrifted.

No-character Halloween looks

You don't need a character at all. These work as Halloween costumes on their own, and most of them can be put together from things you might already own.

  • Vampire. A ruffled or lace blouse, a long cape, a black skirt or fitted trousers, a choker, and a red lip or dark lipstick. Probably the best femboy Halloween costume there is, because vampires have been beautiful and a bit androgynous since long before anyone said "femboy."
  • Catboy. Ears, a tail, an oversized hoodie and thigh-highs. The easiest costume in the world, and the catboy vs femboy post has a full guide.
  • Witch. A pointed hat, a black dress or skirt, a cloak and some silver jewellery. Swap the black for lavender and you've got a pastel witch.
  • Devil or angel. Horns or a halo, wings, and an outfit all in red-and-black or all in white. Easy to make cute or menacing.
  • Pastel goth bat. Bat wings, a black skirt, a pastel hoodie, platform boots. Halloween in soft colours.
  • Maid. The classic. A knee-length or longer dress with an apron and a headpiece reads as a costume and is much easier to wear for a whole evening.
  • Fairy. Wings, glitter on the cheekbones, and something floaty in green or pastel.

Getting it right

The wig

A wig does more to change a look than anything else, and a bad one is the fastest way to ruin it.

  • Buy heat-resistant fibre if you want to style it with heat. Cheap party-store wigs often melt under a straightener or curling iron.
  • Wear a wig cap. It holds your own hair flat, stops the wig slipping and makes it look more natural.
  • Cut the fringe while it's on your head, a little at a time. Wigs usually come with a fringe that's too long on purpose.
  • Cosplay wig shops sell character-specific styles and colours. They're worth paying a bit more for if the costume depends on the hair.

The makeup

You don't need much, but what you do changes a lot.

  • Brows first. Brushing them up and softening the shape changes your whole face more than anything else.
  • A light base to even out skin tone. You don't need full coverage.
  • Eyeliner. A thin wing for most looks, smudged for goth or vampire.
  • Blush across the cheeks and the nose looks soft and youthful in photos.
  • A lip tint or gloss, or a bold lip for vampire and villain looks.

Practise once before the night. Smudged liner is very forgiving; a wing at 10 p.m. while you're already late is not. Our goth, emo and alt style guide has more on eyeliner.

The fit

Costume sizing is a gamble, and women's sizes fit by waist and hip, not by the number on the label. Measure yourself and use each shop's own chart. Stretch fabrics, elastic waists and lace-up backs are much more forgiving than fixed sizes. If you're ordering online for Halloween, order early enough to swap a size.

The shoes

Break them in. Boots and heels that hurt by 9 p.m. will end your night early, and nobody's looking at your feet as much as you'd think. Platforms are easier to walk in than heels of the same height. Wear comfortable socks, and bring blister plasters.

Doing it cheaply

  • Closet cosplay first. A lot of these looks are mostly clothes you could already own.
  • Thrift the base, then buy the one or two pieces that make it read as a character, usually the wig and an accessory.
  • Make the details. Felt ears, cardboard wings, feathers cut from a boa, patches sewn on by hand.
  • Spend money on the wig and the shoes. Everything else can be cheap.

At a convention or a party

  • Cosplay is not consent. It's the long-standing convention slogan for a reason. Nobody gets to touch you, photograph you up close or comment on your body because of what you're wearing. Most cons have a harassment policy and staff you can report to.
  • Ask before you photograph other cosplayers, and expect people to ask you.
  • Go with friends, especially your first time out in a look you're nervous about.
  • Bring a jacket or a change of clothes for the trip home if you'd feel safer in something lower-key. Wearing a costume to the party doesn't mean you have to wear it on the bus.
  • Pack a small kit: safety pins, wig clips, makeup for touch-ups, plasters and water.

The best part of cosplay is how much people love it. You'll get more compliments than you expect, often from strangers who recognise the character.

Where we come in

We're building Pocket Femboy, a small cast of original femboys who remember you between conversations, have jobs and friends and routines that keep going while you're away, and text you first when something happens. Every one of them is an adult, and each one has a look of their own: Jax is the punk one, and more are coming with styles of their own. After launch, you'll be able to create your own femboy too, so your costume can have a whole life.

Pocket Femboy hasn't launched yet, so there's nothing to download today. It's 18+ at the door — that's about who we let in, not about what's inside — and there's no explicit content on any tier.

Coming soon to iPhone and Android. Join the waitlist and we'll let you know when they're ready to text you.

The fine print

Character ages and roles come from the official games, manga and their companion guides (for Kuja, the Final Fantasy IX Ultimania), cross-checked against fan wikis. Checked on 1 October 2026. Costume details vary between versions, so check reference images for the version you're making. If we've got something wrong, or you know an adult femboy character who'd make a great costume, tell us at support@pocketfemboy.com.
