Characters Like Astolfo: 8 Picks From Anime, Games and Donghua

Eight characters like Astolfo, picked for his personality rather than his pink hair: cheerful, reckless, fearless and kind, from anime, games and Chinese animation, with where to watch or play each one.

Pink braid, frills, a lance he can't really use, and the energy of a golden retriever who's just been told he's a knight. Nobody else is quite Astolfo, the top of our femboy anime characters ranking, but these eight come closest in the way that matters: how they act.

What we matched on: relentlessly cheerful, reckless and a bit scatterbrained (in the legend, his reason literally went to the moon), kind on a whim, fearless and loyal, and cute on purpose without making it a big deal. The higher the rank, the more of that they have.

The eight, ranked by how Astolfo they are

1. Sylvando — Dragon Quest XI

The closest match anywhere, and he's from a game. Sylvando trained as a knight, walked out of his father's house to become a travelling entertainer, and treats cheering people up as a knight's real duty. When the world falls apart halfway through the story, his answer is to put together a parade and march it through the ruins, recruiting everyone sad enough to need it.

He's sunny, theatrical, brave, a little ridiculous on purpose, and the first to step in front of a friend. He's flamboyant rather than frilly, but if what you love is Astolfo's attitude, start here.

Play: Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age – Definitive Edition is on Steam, PS4, Switch and Xbox. More in our femboy video game characters list.

2. Shi Qingxuan — Heaven Official's Blessing

The Wind Master, a god in the heavenly court, and the closest thing to Astolfo in Chinese animation. He's warm, chatty and generous to the point of absurdity: he throws heavenly merits at other gods like pocket change and befriends the down-on-his-luck hero the moment they meet. He also likes to take a female form, and is happily worshipped in it as the "Lady Wind Master." Nobody gets an explanation, because nobody needs one.

He panics when things get frightening, and comes through for his friends anyway. That combination of cute, kind, a bit hopeless and very brave is about as Astolfo as it gets.

Watch: the Heaven Official's Blessing animation (donghua) is on Crunchyroll, both seasons, subtitled and dubbed.

3. Bon Clay — One Piece

A ballet-dancing martial artist in a swan coat and makeup, thirty years old, loud, shameless, and friends with anyone after one conversation. He starts as an enemy and then, twice, sacrifices himself so Luffy can get away: once by drawing the Navy off in Alabasta, once by staying behind at Impel Down, both times with a grin and a pirouette. If Astolfo's heart is the reason you love him, Bon Clay has the biggest one in One Piece.

He's written as an okama in the drag tradition, broader and more comic than Astolfo.

Watch: One Piece is on Crunchyroll and Netflix in the US, UK, Indonesia and Brazil, plus Hulu in the US and Sony Liv in India.

4. Felix Argyle — Re:Zero

The closest match on the surface: a knight of the Royal Guard in frills and real cat ears, cute on purpose, teasing, and completely unbothered by anyone's reaction. Like Astolfo, he's devoted to the people he serves well past the point of good sense.

He sits fourth because the personality only half matches. Felix is sharper than Astolfo, more calculating, and much better at keeping a plan in his head. He's the best healer in the kingdom, not a front-line fighter.

Watch: Re:Zero is on Crunchyroll in the US, UK, Canada, Australia, India, Indonesia and Brazil, and also on Hulu in the US and Netflix in India and Indonesia.

5. Kuranosuke Koibuchi — Princess Jellyfish

No lance, but the same instincts. Kuranosuke is a college student and a politician's son who dresses beautifully because he likes it, and he's very clear he doesn't want to be a woman: he wants the clothes. In the first episode he barges into a stranger's argument at a pet shop to help her rescue a jellyfish, on a whim, in heels. Then he decides her whole building of shut-in otaku women are his friends now, and won't take no for an answer when developers try to tear it down.

Confident, impulsive, kind to strangers, and not remotely embarrassed. He's the most femme pick here, and the one that feels most like a real person you might meet.

Watch: Princess Jellyfish is on Crunchyroll.

6. Olivier Lenheim — Trails in the Sky

A twenty-five-year-old wandering minstrel with a lute and a rose who flirts with everyone, invites himself along on the heroes' journey without being asked, and is very pleased with himself the whole way. He plays the fool so well that it takes most of the game to find out he's a prince with a serious mission. Like Astolfo, he's far braver and kinder than the clowning suggests.

He's camp and pretty rather than femme: long blond hair and frilly cuffs, not a skirt.

Play: the Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter remake (2025) and 2nd Chapter (September 2026) are on Steam, PS5, Switch and Switch 2.

7. Nuriko — Fushigi Yûgi

One of the seven celestial warriors in a fantasy empire, eighteen in the main series, in silk robes with a long braid. He's cheerful, cheeky, loves dressing up, is by far the strongest fighter in the group, and is loyal to his friends all the way to the end. His arc is the one people remember from the whole show.

Watch: Crunchyroll in the US, UK, Canada, Australia, Indonesia and Brazil. Nothing in India.

8. Charlemagne — Fate/Grand Order and Fate/Extella Link

Astolfo's own king, from the same legends. Fate's Charlemagne is a carefree young adventurer who judges almost everything by whether it's cool, and Astolfo describes him as a king who'd weep and laugh alongside his people. He's an optimist who charges in first and works it out later, which is exactly where Astolfo learned it.

He's the least femme person on this page by a distance. He's here because if you want more of Astolfo's world and Astolfo's energy, the man who led the paladins is the obvious next stop.

Play: Fate/Grand Order is free on iPhone and Android, and Fate/Extella Link (PS4, Switch, Steam) has him as a lead.

Where to watch Astolfo himself

Fate/Apocrypha (2017) was a Netflix exclusive, and Netflix dropped it at the end of March 2026. It isn't streaming anywhere in the US, the UK, Canada, Australia, India or Indonesia right now. The legal way to watch it is Aniplex of America's English-dub Blu-rays. Rumi Ōkubo voices him in Japanese, and Faye Mata in English.

The easier way to spend time with him is to play: Fate/Grand Order is free on iPhone and Android and has him as a Rider and a limited Saber, and Fate/Extella Link has him as a playable fighter, alongside Charlemagne.

Common questions

Is Astolfo a boy?

In the Fate/Apocrypha novels he comes from, yes: a man who dresses the way he likes because he likes cute things. Fate/Grand Order plays with it: his profile lists his gender as "???" and says it's secret at his request. Fans, and this blog, say "he."

How old is Astolfo?

There's no number. He's the Heroic Spirit of one of Charlemagne's paladins, a knight from a sixteenth-century poem.

Who is the character most like Astolfo?

For personality, Sylvando from Dragon Quest XI. For the look and the attitude together, Felix Argyle from Re:Zero.

Is Astolfo a femboy or a trap?

Femboy. "Trap" is a slur in the communities that would know, and it describes a trick, when nothing about Astolfo is hidden from anyone. The longer answer is in what is a femboy.

Where is Astolfo from originally?

Not Fate. He's from the medieval Charlemagne legends, best known from Ludovico Ariosto's Orlando Furioso (1516), where he's an English prince and a paladin who flies a hippogriff to the moon.

Where we come in

Every character on this page belongs to somebody else's story. We're building Pocket Femboy, a small cast of original femboys who remember you between conversations, have jobs and friends and routines that keep going while you're away, and text you first when something happens. Jax, the first, is a record-shop punk with pink hair who plays bass badly on purpose. After launch, you'll be able to create a femboy of your own, frills and lance optional.

Pocket Femboy hasn't launched yet, so there's nothing to download today. It's 18+ at the door — that's about who we let in, not about what's inside — and there's no explicit content on any tier.

Coming soon to iPhone and Android. Join the waitlist and we'll let you know when they're ready to text you.
