Femboy Video Game Characters: Astolfo, Kuja, Cloud and 8 More, Ranked

The best femboy video game characters, ranked, from Astolfo and Kuja to Amane Nishiki and Aaron Wei, with where to play them now, the best game for making your own, and who we left out and why.

Anime gets the attention, but some of the best femboys ever written are in games: a paladin with a pink braid, a villain in feathers, a dance-troupe star in red lipstick, and a mercenary in a ballgown. Here are eleven, ranked, and where to play every one of them now.

The ranking

1. Astolfo — Fate/Grand Order and Fate/Extella Link

The face of the whole category started in the Fate/Apocrypha novels, but most people meet him in a game. Astolfo is one of Charlemagne's Twelve Paladins, pulled out of Ariosto's Orlando Furioso, the knight who rode a hippogriff to the moon to fetch back Orlando's lost wits in a bottle. In Fate he's a Heroic Spirit of that paladin: pink braid, frills, a lance he's bad at and a horn that works far too well.

What puts him first is that nobody, including Astolfo, treats the frills as a question. He's cheerful, reckless, forgets plans halfway through them, and is braver than everyone around him. Fate/Grand Order's own profile lists his gender as "???" and says it's a secret at his request. The Apocrypha novels he comes from say he's a man who dresses the way he likes because he likes cute things, which is why we, and most fans, say "he."

Play: Fate/Grand Order is free on iPhone and Android. The English version is out in the US, Canada, the UK, Australia and Brazil. He's a permanent Rider and a limited Saber. Fate/Extella Link (PS4, Switch, Steam) has him as a playable fighter.

2. Kuja — Final Fantasy IX

Kuja, official render: silver hair with a feather, a purple and white theatrical outfit

The best-written villain on this list and the most fully feminine. Kuja is twenty-four, according to the Final Fantasy IX Ultimania, the official guide: long silver hair, a feather, a theatrical outfit, and a habit of narrating his own scenes like the curtain's about to fall. He was made, not born, as a tool to start wars, and the game's back half is about what happens when he finds out how short a life he was given.

He's camp and cruel and frightened, and Final Fantasy IX takes all three seriously. You don't play as him, but you spend the whole game in his shadow. He's playable in the Dissidia fighting games.

Play: Final Fantasy IX is on Steam, PS4, Switch, Xbox One, iPhone and Android.

3. Sylvando — Dragon Quest XI

The sunniest person on this page and the closest in spirit to Astolfo. Sylvando trained as a knight, walked out of his father's house to become a touring entertainer, and now headlines his own show from his own ship. He fights with a sword and a whip and treats cheering people up as a knightly duty.

He's flamboyant rather than cross-dressed. Series creator Yuji Horii and designer Akira Toriyama have said they built him to blend masculine and feminine on purpose. Players loved him: he topped Famitsu's popularity poll for the game.

Play: Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age – Definitive Edition is on Steam, PS4, Switch and Xbox.

4. Amane Nishiki — BlazBlue

Amane Nishiki, official character select art from BlazBlue: Centralfiction: long purple hair, a pink kimono with flowing sleeves

The most femme-presenting man in fighting games. Amane leads a travelling dance troupe and is known as a "Dance God": long purple hair, a pink kimono with sleeves that go on forever, makeup and red lipstick. He fights the way he performs, all swirling fabric, and keeps a calm, amused smile through the whole thing. He's tall, he's been running his troupe for years, and he treats the rest of the cast like an audience.

Play: BlazBlue: Centralfiction is on Steam, PS4 and Switch. He's also in Chronophantasma Extend on Steam.

5. Aaron Wei — Trails through Daybreak

Aaron Wei, official art from Trails through Daybreak: long red hair, a red and black jacket, one hand on his hip

A nineteen-year-old star of the Eastern opera stage whose speciality is the female roles: he's the troupe's onnagata, in full costume and makeup, in a sword dance that has the whole city watching. Off stage he's cocky, quick with his fists and very pleased with how good he looks in both.

That's the femboy story the series tells most directly: a guy who's proud of playing the beautiful heroine and doesn't see why that should make him less of a fighter. He joins your party and stays for the sequel, where he's twenty.

Play: Trails through Daybreak (2024) and Trails through Daybreak II (2025) are on Steam, PS5, PS4 and Switch.

6. Libra — Fire Emblem Awakening

Libra, official Fire Emblem Heroes art: long blond hair, white priest's robes, an axe

A war monk who swings an axe, and the gentlest person in the army. Libra is a priest, long-haired and soft-spoken, and the game's own text says his features are so lovely that he's often mistaken for a woman. His supports dig into a hard childhood and the orphanage he wants to build after the war, and they're some of the best in Awakening.

Play: Awakening itself can't be bought any more since the 3DS eShop closed. Libra is in Fire Emblem Heroes, free on iPhone and Android.

7. Cloud Strife — Final Fantasy VII

The honest exception. Cloud is twenty-one in the official guides, a grim mercenary, and not a femboy at all, except for one night in Wall Market. To get into a crime boss's mansion and rescue Tifa, he has to win the boss's "bride" audition, so he needs a dress, a wig and makeup. In the remake, the Honeybee Inn turns it into a full stage number. Co-director Motomu Toriyama said he wanted Cloud to look "dignified and beautiful," and he does.

It's a disguise, not a style, but it's the scene that got a lot of people curious about the look, and it's the most-cosplayed dress in gaming. Our femboy cosplay guide shows how to put it together.

Play: the original Final Fantasy VII is on Steam, PS4, Switch, Xbox One, iPhone and Android. Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade is on PS5 and Steam. Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, the second part, is on PS5, Steam, and since June 2026 Switch 2 and Xbox Series.

Next door to the word

These four aren't femboys exactly. They're soft, pretty or camp men that femboy fans tend to love anyway.

8. Andrea Rhodea — Final Fantasy VII Remake and Rebirth

The owner of the Honeybee Inn and the man who turns Cloud into a showgirl. Andrea is a glamorous lead dancer and one of Wall Market's bosses, all charisma and good advice about confidence. He doesn't dress femme himself; he's the reason the dress scene works. He comes back in Rebirth at the Gold Saucer.

Play: as for Remake and Rebirth above.

9. G'raha Tia — Final Fantasy XIV

G'raha Tia, official render from Final Fantasy XIV: red hair, cat ears, a dark red coat

A Miqo'te scholar with long red hair, cat ears and robes, who seals himself inside the Crystal Tower and is woken centuries later. He comes back in Shadowbringers as the Crystal Exarch, one of the best-loved characters in the game. Delicate and devoted rather than femme, but he's on every femboy-adjacent list for a reason.

Play: Steam, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series and Mac. The free trial covers his first story, the Crystal Tower; Shadowbringers needs the full game.

10. Olivier Lenheim — Trails in the Sky

A twenty-five-year-old wandering musician who flirts with everyone, sings at inconvenient moments, and is very pleased with himself. That's all a cover: he's a prince of the neighbouring empire. Camp and theatrical rather than feminine, and great company.

Play: the Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter remake (2025) and 2nd Chapter (September 2026) are on Steam, PS5, Switch and Switch 2.

11. Lifeweaver — Overwatch 2

Niran Pruksamanee, thirty-one, a Thai inventor and artist who heals with flowers. Long hair, a pink lotus, soft voice, and very pretty. He's not femme-presenting; he's in the same family as G'raha Tia.

Play: free on Steam, Battle.net, PS5, PS4, Xbox and Switch.

Make your own: The Sims 4

The best femboy in a game might be the one you make. Since a June 2016 update, built with advice from GLAAD, The Sims 4 lets any Sim wear anything: every skirt, dress, heel and hairstyle is open to every Sim, and you set body frame, walk and voice separately from gender. EA's lead producer put the goal simply: let any Sim wear anything. A male Sim in a pleated skirt and thigh-highs is a few clicks, and then he gets a job and a life of his own.

Final Fantasy XIV, Baldur's Gate 3 and Monster Hunter Wilds do something similar with their wardrobes, and our femboy gamer post goes through them.

Play: the base game has been free since 2022 on Steam, the EA app, Mac, PlayStation and Xbox.

A special mention: Sasha — Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Sasha, a white rabbit villager, in Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp, with a note that reads "If you ever find yourself looking for something to do, you can always swing by here for a chat"

A sleepy white bunny in a soft pastel outfit who arrived in the free 2.0 update in November 2021, and a lot of players assumed he was a girl until Pocket Camp confirmed he's a boy. He's the only male villager whose hobby is fashion, and he was so wanted that his villager card traded for millions of bells.

He's technically a rabbit, so he doesn't get a number. But if you want a femboy neighbour, he's the one.

Play: Animal Crossing: New Horizons is on Switch, with a Switch 2 edition.

Common questions

Who is the most popular femboy video game character?

Astolfo, by a distance, even though he started in a novel. Kuja is the most popular one who started in a game.

Is Link a femboy?

Not really. He wears the Gerudo outfit in Breath of the Wild to get into a town that only lets women in, and he looks great in it, but it's a disguise for one quest. Nintendo has never made him an adult either, which is why he isn't ranked.

Is Venti a femboy, and how old is he?

Venti is soft and pretty, and an ancient god in the story, but Genshin Impact draws him on its youngest body type and never makes him an adult. He's not on the list.

Are there games where you can play as a femboy?

Yes. The Sims 4 is the most complete, and any game with open character creation works: Final Fantasy XIV, Baldur's Gate 3 and Monster Hunter Wilds all let you dress anyone in anything. Our femboy gamer post goes through them.

Why aren't there more femboys in games?

Most games star teenagers. The ones that give grown men room to be pretty are mostly long RPG series and fighting games, which is where this list comes from.

Where we come in

None of these characters is going to text you back. Ours will. We're building Pocket Femboy, a small cast of original femboys who remember you between conversations, have jobs and friends and routines that keep going while you're away, and message you first when something happens. Jax, the first, is a record-shop punk with pink hair who plays bass badly on purpose and is not especially nice to you at first. After launch, you'll be able to create a femboy of your own.

Pocket Femboy hasn't launched yet, so there's nothing to download today. It's 18+ at the door — that's about who we let in, not about what's inside — and there's no explicit content on any tier.

Coming soon to iPhone and Android. Join the waitlist and we'll let you know when they're ready to text you.
