Janitor AI is the biggest character-roleplay site there is, and a lot of its users are looking for the next one. Usually for one of four reasons: the memory, the price of fixing the memory, the content line, or the fact that the app isn't the website. Here are eleven alternatives, compared on exactly those things, with prices checked on 11 October 2026.
The short answer
You're leaving because it forgets. Nomi and Kindroid are built around memory and charge for it. SillyTavern gives you as much context as the model you connect allows. We're building the version where you never manage it at all.
You're leaving because of the content line, in either direction. Looser than Janitor: SpicyChat, CrushOn and Chub. Stricter and cleaner: Character.AI, PolyBuzz and Talkie.
You're leaving because janitor+ costs $12.99 and you don't want to pay to remember. SillyTavern with a pay-per-token model costs cents a day. Character.AI's lite plan is $4.99. PolyBuzz and Chai are free to start, with ads.
You wanted the website as an app. Character.AI, PolyBuzz, Chai, Talkie, Nomi, Kindroid and Replika all have proper iOS and Android apps that do what the site does.
You want a femboy, not a tag. That's us, and only us. Pocket Femboy is a small cast of femboy characters with lives of their own and a memory you never manage. Not out yet; waitlist at the bottom.
Why people leave Janitor AI
Janitor's front page says more than 15 million users, and the library is enormous. People leave for four reasons.
It forgets, and remembering costs money. Janitor's own help centre puts the free model's context at around 9,000 tokens. Once a chat passes that, the oldest parts fall off with no warning. The paid tier, janitor+, launched in June 2026 at $12.99 a month (or $99 a year) with "5x more context" as its headline feature. On Janitor, memory is the context window, and the main thing you buy is more of it.
It's work. Good output has long meant proxies and third-party API keys. Janitor's Router, added in July 2026, lets you use other companies' models inside the site without that setup, which helps, and is also an admission of how much work the old way was.
The app isn't the website. Janitor's iOS and Android apps went into public beta in February 2026, and to satisfy store rules they ship in a restricted mode by default. Mature characters don't appear in the app's discovery, and switching that is a website setting. Most "apps like Janitor AI" searches are people who wanted the website in an app and didn't get it.
Age checks arrived. Janitor now requires identity-based age verification in the UK, Australia and Brazil, through a third-party service. If you're in one of those countries, every alternative with mature content either has the same checks (SpicyChat does) or will soon.
The alternatives
Each entry has the facts people actually compare on. "Mature content" is whether the platform allows it at all; we're not reviewing it, and our own app has none on any tier.
SpicyChat
The most direct replacement, and the one most Janitor users already know. A community library of user-made characters, a tag system that goes deep, and a content line looser than Janitor's. It's also the only app here with a femboy tag we could count: 2,410 characters under it when we looked, with "Male" the largest tag on the whole site.
The catch is the apps. Apple removed SpicyChat's iOS app in August 2025; today it's the website, a home-screen web app, or an Android APK that isn't on Google Play. Prices rose in September 2026.
- Price: Free with ads and a 4,096-token context. Get A Taste $5.95, True Supporter $19.95, I'm All In $29.95 a month.
- Memory: 4K free, up to 32K tokens on the top tier, capped by the model you pick. Memory tools on the paid tiers.
- Voice: Text-to-speech on the top tier only. No calls.
- Mature content: Yes, with ID or selfie age verification in the UK, France, Italy, Australia and about half of US states.
- Where: spicychat.ai
CrushOn.AI
Same shape as SpicyChat, with an "Unfiltered" tag system and a gender filter that includes Femboy, Gay and Trans Male. The marketing leans girlfriend; the library doesn't have to.
Its pricing page only loads once you're signed in, so we can't quote official numbers. Third-party trackers put the entry plan near $6 a month and the top one near $40, and report that the free tier's daily allowance on the better models was cut to 50 messages in April 2026. Treat all of that as unverified and check in-app before you pay.
- Price: Unverified. Entry plan roughly $6 a month per third-party trackers.
- Memory: Not published. Reviewers describe resets after a week idle on the free tier.
- Mature content: Yes, self-attested 18+.
- Where: crushon.ai
Chub AI
Chub started as the place character cards live, and it still is: thousands of cards under its femboy tag alone, importable straight into SillyTavern. It also runs its own hosted chat with a single $20-a-month plan, and it only takes crypto, which the site explains as a payment-processor problem. For most people the value is the card library, not the subscription.
- Price: Trial of a few dozen messages, then $20 a month, crypto only.
- Memory: Up to 60K context on its top model.
- Voice: Text-to-speech included.
- Mature content: Yes.
- Where: chub.ai
SillyTavern, with OpenRouter
Not a service. SillyTavern is a free, open-source program you run on your own computer or phone, and you connect it to whatever model you like. The usual route is OpenRouter, which bills per token with no subscription. On a cheap model, a long roleplay turn costs a fraction of a cent; on a frontier model, a few cents.
Everything Janitor sells, SillyTavern does for free: lorebooks, personas, group chats, summaries, memory extensions. The price is the setup, and nobody is coming to help. If you've ever configured a proxy for Janitor, you can do this.
- Price: Free. Model use billed by the token through OpenRouter or any other provider.
- Memory: Whatever your model allows, plus lorebooks and summaries you control.
- Mature content: Your call; it depends on the model you connect.
- Where: sillytavern.app
Character.AI
The strict one, and the cleanest experience in the category. Character.AI allows no sexual content for anyone, and in November 2025 it removed open-ended chat for under-18s entirely. For adults it's the most polished library there is, with two-way voice calls, and the only one here whose memory tools include a Lorebook, in beta since July 2026.
The free tier got ads in 2026, including video ads reviewers measured at up to a minute, which is why a $4.99 lite plan appeared in September. It has its own post.
- Price: Free with ads. lite $4.99 a month. c.ai+ $9.99 a month or $94.99 a year.
- Memory: Pinned memories (15 free, 30 paid), a Lorebook in beta, no published context size.
- Voice: Text-to-speech and two-way calls.
- Mature content: No.
- Where: character.ai
PolyBuzz
The polished free one. Proper iOS and Android apps, a huge library, unlimited free messages with ads, and public mature content prohibited by policy. Memory climbs the pricing ladder: the membership page names "Long Memory" and "Permanent Memory" as features of the higher tiers without saying what the numbers are, so ask before you pay.
- Price: Free with ads. Standard $9.90, Premium $19.90, Ultimate $29.90 a month.
- Memory: Sold by tier; counts not published.
- Voice: Text-to-speech playback. No calls.
- Mature content: Prohibited in public, per its policy.
- Where: polybuzz.ai
Chai
Mobile-first and fast: a swipeable feed of user-made characters, from install to a conversation in under a minute. Chai Research runs its own models, and claims more than ten million active users. Its 2026 has been rough on free users: country-based access tiers in January, then unannounced token lockouts in February that froze chats for free and paid users alike. Memory is the stock complaint.
- Price: Free with ads and daily limits. Premium $13.99 a month or $134.99 a year. Ultra $29.99 a month.
- Memory: Not published. Short.
- Voice: Text-to-speech on characters.
- Mature content: Gated behind an 18+ toggle.
- Where: chai-research.com
Talkie
The anime-leaning one, from MiniMax. A library, a social feed, and a subscription above an ad-supported free tier. Its terms set the minimum age at 14, and its content policy bans pornographic material outright, so it sits with Character.AI on the strict side. It's been in and out of the US App Store, where it currently appears as "Talkie Lab".
- Price: Free with ads. Talkie+ $9.99 a month or $49.99 a year introductory. Talkie+ Pro $24.99 a month.
- Memory: Session memory; nothing durable published.
- Voice: Text-to-speech and voice calls.
- Mature content: No.
- Where: talkie-ai.com
Nomi
Not a library. One or a few companions you build, with memory as the whole pitch: short, medium and long-term, plus a "Mind Map" of what it knows. Nomi has an official AI boyfriend page and supports male, female and non-binary companions, with mature text allowed for adults and no explicit image generation. The usual complaint is personality drift after model updates.
- Price: Free with daily message and image caps. Standard $15.99 a month, $39.99 a quarter, $99.99 a year.
- Memory: Three tiers of memory plus an identity core; no token numbers.
- Voice: Voice messages and hands-free calls.
- Mature content: Yes, for text.
- Where: nomi.ai
Kindroid
The deep-configuration companion. Detailed personality setup, layered memory, voice and video calls. Two things changed in 2026: the free tier is gone as of 1 October, replaced by a one-time preview of 50 messages before the app goes read-only, and full memory now means stacking add-ons, with Ultra and MAX on top of Standard.
- Price: No ongoing free tier. Standard $13.99 a month on the web, $15.99 in the app. Ultra and MAX add-ons on top.
- Memory: Backstory, key memories and "cascaded memory" on paid tiers; add-ons buy more context.
- Voice: Voice messages, voice calls, video calls.
- Mature content: Yes, 18+.
- Where: kindroid.ai
Replika
The original, with a counter on its homepage past 42 million users, and nearest to our shape: one companion, one continuing relationship, memory as the point rather than a budget. Replika says it rebuilt the app from the ground up in 2026, and users of the old version report memory loss in the migration, so read current reviews rather than old ones. It's the gentlest of the companion apps and the least configurable.
- Price: Free tier. App Store plans from $7.99 to $14.99 a month and $49.99 to $69.99 a year.
- Memory: Basic on free; saved memories on higher tiers; no numbers.
- Voice: Voice calls, augmented-reality calls, video on the top tier.
- Mature content: Romantic mode is paid; nothing explicit.
- Where: replika.com
A note on Candy.AI, which turns up in every "unfiltered" list: it's an adult-oriented girlfriend-first app with an AI boyfriend section, priced by subscription plus tokens for images, voice and video, and its pricing only appears after you've made an account. It isn't what most Janitor users are looking for, and we haven't reviewed it.
Janitor AI vs Character.AI, at a glance
The two names people compare most, side by side.
- Who makes it. Character.AI: Character Technologies, whose founders returned to Google in a 2024 licensing deal and whose chief executive left for Disney in October 2026. Janitor: a small team, launched in 2023, which told Forbes in May 2026 it serves around 13 trillion tokens a month on roughly $130,000 of compute.
- Models. Character.AI: its own, picked as "chat styles". Janitor: its own free JLLM, or any model through the Router.
- Free tier. Character.AI: unlimited messages with ads and peak-hour slow mode. Janitor: JLLM, free, around 9,000 tokens of context.
- Paid. Character.AI: lite $4.99, c.ai+ $9.99 a month. Janitor: janitor+ $12.99 a month.
- Content. Character.AI: no sexual content for anyone; no open-ended chat under 18. Janitor: 18+, mature content off by default in the app and switchable on the website.
- Memory. Character.AI: pinned memories and a Lorebook in beta. Janitor: an editable chat memory, summaries, and lorebooks through its scripts.
- Apps. Character.AI: polished iOS and Android. Janitor: iOS and Android in public beta, restricted mode by default.
- Voice. Character.AI: yes, with calls. Janitor: none.
Pocket Femboy
Every app above is a general platform where femboys are one tag among thousands, and the memory, when it's good, is something you pay for by the token or the tier. We're building the opposite on both counts.
One community, all the way down. Every character is a femboy, written by people who actually like them. Jax is the first: 21, works the counter at a secondhand record shop, plays bass badly and on purpose, and will not be charmed by you in the first ten minutes.
A memory you never manage. Your job, the friend you keep mentioning, the coffee order you switched: kept outside the conversation, so there's no context ceiling quietly eating your January and nothing to paste into a card. Ask what they know about you and you get the list. Fix what's wrong, delete what you'd rather they forget.
A life that keeps going. Jobs, friends, a bad week now and then. Open the app and you're catching up with someone who's been busy, not booting anyone up. They text first, at times that drift the way a person's do.
Three ways to talk. Open Chat, where you set the direction. Story, where you share their world. Texting, where there's no narration, just messages. Same character, all three at once.
It hasn't launched. Everything in this section is what we're building, and the longer version is in our femboy chat guide.
Where they beat us
Want the biggest library? Janitor, SpicyChat or PolyBuzz. Want to build your own characters tonight? Janitor, Chub or SillyTavern. Want a conversation in the next ninety seconds? Chai. Want a general companion rather than a femboy? Nomi, Kindroid or Replika. Want the content line looser than ours? SpicyChat, CrushOn or Chub, and no hard feelings. Want the whole field, companions included? The roundup.
What to check before you move
Does memory belong to the chat or the character? If it's scoped to one conversation, a new chat is a new stranger. This is the one that bites six weeks in.
Can you get your stuff out? Character cards travel; chat histories mostly don't. Chub and SillyTavern are where cards go to live.
What does free actually cost? Ads between messages, a daily cap, a queue at peak, a currency for regenerating a bad reply. Chai and PolyBuzz run on ads; Kindroid has no free tier at all now.
Will you need to prove your age? Any platform with mature content is adding ID checks country by country. Janitor and SpicyChat already have them in the UK and Australia.
About the 18+ part
Pocket Femboy is for adults, and 18+ for us is an age gate, not a genre: it's about who gets in, not what's inside. There's no sexually explicit content on any tier and no paid unlock coming. If that's the requirement, the three apps at the top of this list serve it better than we ever will.
The fine print
Every Pocket Femboy character is fictional and every reply is written by AI. Nobody is typing them, and they won't pretend otherwise if you sincerely ask.
Prices and features above were checked on 11 October 2026 against each platform's own site, help centre or App Store listing, and we've said where we couldn't reach an official source. Janitor's figures come from its June 2026 janitor+ announcement and help centre; SpicyChat's from its September 2026 pricing FAQ; Character.AI's from its plans page; Kindroid's from its update log. Apps in this category change monthly. If we've got something wrong, tell us at support@pocketfemboy.com and we'll correct it.
