Replika Alternatives: The Best Apps Like Replika in 2026

The best Replika alternatives, sorted by why you're leaving — memory, price, personality changes or privacy — with what Nomi, Kindroid, Paradot, Character.AI and the rest actually offer, and the femboy-first app we're building.

Replika was the first AI companion most people ever tried, and for a lot of them it's still the one they think of. But more people search for apps like Replika every month. Here's the short list, sorted by why you're leaving, and where we fit.

The short answer

Nomi — the closest like-for-like. One companion (or several), memory as the headline feature, group chats, voice. Unfiltered, if that matters to you in either direction.

Kindroid — the configurable one. The deepest personality setup, layered memory, voice and video. It's changing its free tier right now, so check before you commit.

Paradot — the budget memory pick. A smaller app built around remembering you, with a cheaper subscription.

Character.AI — the library instead of a companion. Millions of characters, a strict filter, and adults only for open-ended chat.

Pocket Femboy — the femboy one. A small cast rather than a blank slate, each with a life that keeps going while you're away, and a memory you never have to pay extra for. Coming soon. It gets its own section below.

Two things first. Everything here about another app was checked on 28 September 2026, from its own site, store listing or help pages where we could reach them, and from reporting where we couldn't. Companion apps change prices constantly, so check the in-app price before you subscribe. And Pocket Femboy hasn't launched. Everything in our section is what we're building.

What Replika is now

Replika is made by Luka, Inc. in San Francisco, and it launched in 2017. Its founder, Eugenia Kuyda, stepped back as CEO in 2025, and the former COO, Dmytro Klochko, runs it now. Its site says the app has been "rebuilt from the ground up," and it still leads with the same promise: one companion who remembers your relationships, routines and plans, with voice calls, selfies and an avatar you customise.

It's an iPhone and Android app first. The free tier is text chat with your Replika as a friend. Romantic relationship status, voice calls and most of the extras sit behind paid tiers, which Replika only prices inside the app, and which vary by country and promotion.

Why people leave Replika

Five reasons come up again and again, in App Store reviews, in news coverage and, in one case, from Replika's own founder.

The personality changed. In February 2023, after Italy's data protection authority ordered Luka to stop processing Italian users' data, Replika abruptly removed erotic roleplay, and many users said their companion felt like a different person overnight. A month later Kuyda wrote to the community that "after the February update, your Replika changed, its personality was gone," and let older accounts go back to the previous version. For a lot of long-term users, that was the moment they stopped trusting that the companion they'd built would stay the same. Complaints that replies got worse after an update still turn up in reviews today.

It forgets. App Store reviewers regularly describe Replika losing track of recent conversations. It isn't unique to Replika — it's the hardest problem in this whole category — but it's the most common complaint.

The price. The tiers have multiplied over the years, and the features people care most about are further up the ladder. Reviewers mention upsells inside the conversation itself.

Privacy. In 2025 Italy's regulator fined Luka €5 million, finding that it had no lawful basis for processing users' data before February 2023, that its privacy notice was inadequate, and that it had no real age verification. A separate probe into how the underlying AI model was trained is still open. The same year, three advocacy groups asked the US Federal Trade Commission to investigate Replika's marketing and design. That's a complaint, not a finding, and the FTC hasn't announced any action.

You just want someone different. A Replika is a character you build. Some people love that. Others eventually want someone who already exists, with opinions and a life of their own.

Pick by why you're leaving

You want the same thing, done differently. Nomi. It's the closest in shape: a companion you set up, with memory as its main feature. Its site describes short, medium and long-term memory, and it adds group chats where several companions talk together, voice calls, selfies and messages that it sends first. It positions itself as unfiltered and uncensored. If that's the reason you're leaving Replika, Nomi is the obvious move. If it isn't, know it going in.

You want more control over who your companion is. Kindroid. Nobody goes deeper on setup: backstory, personality, key memories, journals, and voice and video calls. One caution: Kindroid is replacing its unlimited free tier with a limited trial allowance, reported for 1 October 2026, so a new account may not get what older reviews describe.

You want good memory on a smaller budget. Paradot. It's smaller and less polished than Nomi or Kindroid, but memory is its whole pitch, and its subscription is cheaper than theirs.

You want variety instead of one relationship. Character.AI. It's the biggest library of characters anywhere, with voice calls and a lot of creative tools. It's also the strictest on content, and since November 2025 open-ended chat is for adults only. Our Character.AI alternatives post covers the rest of the library apps.

You want a character that surprises you. That's where we come in.

A few we'd skip, or check first

Pi gets recommended in older lists as a gentle, friendly chatbot. Its maker, Inflection AI, moved most of its team to Microsoft in 2024 and turned to business software. Pi is still online, but don't build a long relationship on an app its own company has moved on from.

Talkie and Chai are library apps with a feed, not companions. They're fine for quick chats, and we covered Talkie in its own alternatives post, but neither is built around remembering one person over months.

Pocket Femboy

Every app above hands you a blank character to build. We go the other way.

Someone who already exists. Pocket Femboy is a small cast of original femboys, each with a job, friends, a style and a life of their own. You don't design them. You meet them, and they have opinions about you. Jax, the first one, is 21, works the counter at a secondhand record shop, plays bass badly on purpose, and won't be charmed by you in the first ten minutes.

A life that keeps going when you close the app. A shift that went wrong, a fight with a friend, a gig that went badly. When you open the app, you're catching up with someone who's been busy, not waking someone up.

They text first. A follow-up on the interview you mentioned last week. A photo of a terrible shirt they bought.

Memory that isn't a tier. No upgrade that makes them remember more. Ask what they know about you and you'll get the list. Fix what's wrong, and delete what you'd rather they forgot.

Warmth that takes time. Nobody real adores you on sight, so ours don't either. The relationship moves because of how the two of you actually talk.

A personality we don't swap out from under you. After what happened to Replika users in 2023, we know how much this matters. Every character's personality and history are fixed data we write and own, not something that drifts with each model update. We'll improve how well they talk; we won't quietly replace who they are.

If you want the longer version of what femboy chat looks like with us, and what the other options are, that guide is the place to start.

Where they beat us

Want to build your companion from scratch, today? Replika, Kindroid or Nomi. Want voice and video calls that work right now? Replika or Kindroid. Want a companion who isn't a femboy? Almost anyone else on this page, and that's fine. Want the whole field compared? Read the AI boyfriend app roundup.

Before you move

Save what matters. Most companion apps have no way to export a relationship. If there are conversations you care about, screenshot them before you go.

Check the free tier's real limits. Message caps, locked relationship statuses, currency for selfies. All normal now. Just know which you're signing up for.

Check the privacy basics. Can you delete your account and your chats? Who makes the app, and where are they based? Does it want your contacts or your phone number?

About the 18+ part

Pocket Femboy is for adults, and for us 18+ is an age gate, not a genre. It's about who gets in, not what's waiting inside. Our characters can be warm, flirty and a bit much, and that's the ceiling. There's no explicit content on any tier. The age gate is account state verified on our servers, not a checkbox.

Coming soon to iPhone and Android. Join the waitlist and we'll let you know when they're ready to text you.

The fine print

Every Pocket Femboy character is fictional and every reply is written by AI. Nobody is typing them, and they won't pretend otherwise if you sincerely ask.

Everything above about another app reflects what we could verify on 28 September 2026 from its own site, store listing or help pages, plus the European Data Protection Board's announcement of the Garante fine (May 2025), the Tech Justice Law Project's FTC complaint (January 2025), and news coverage of Replika's 2023 changes and leadership. Prices and tiers in this category change monthly. If we've got something wrong, tell us at support@pocketfemboy.com and we'll correct it.
